U2opia has tied up with India’s leading telecom service provider Airtel to offer these services. Airtel users can dial *325# or *fbk# on non-qwerty mobile phones to access facebook on their mobile. Users are allowed to update their status through this service for free. But, for full feature application, which enables viewing news feeds, commenting on or liking news feed stories, posting on friends’ walls, confirming friend requests, viewing notifications and finding as well as adding friends, Airtel will charge Rs. 1 per day.
USSD is a session-based communication, this requires no internet connection, browser, GPRS etc. It functions somewhat like a menu-based browser. Airtel claim sthat this technology is unique to GSM, and is a built-in way to transmit data over signal channels. Airtel’s USSD solution is based on Fonetwish, developed by U2opia Mobile social and mobile application provider.
Finally, i used the service to update my status update and here is the screenshot of the update, It says via Facebook by Fonetwish.

The new Facebook USSD service by Airtel is the world’s first time and it do have some problems while operating. I hope Airtel will fix all and make it really a good service in the future. And for those who are worried about the security, if you are trusting the private phone calls and text messages you sending, then you must trust this service too. What you waiting for? Give it a try and share your experience as comments. Thank you for reading.
